When you move your family during a school year, you and the children have a lot of adjustments to make along the way. The transition to a new school already presents challenges, but you do not need to add more stress with the move itself. As you plan out a move during a school year, follow some tips to help make the process go smoothly and result in a smooth transition.

1. School Supply Box

As you pack up your home, set a box or bin aside exclusively for school items. The items will include everything needs for before, after, and during a school day. You should include school outfits, backpacks, lunch bags, snacks, and notepads. The bin can also include items for homework use, including notepads, pencils, and pens.

When you have a single supply box, you will not need to dig through multiple boxes to try and find what you need. You can keep the box in your own vehicle so you have easy access no matter what house you are at.

2. Internet Connections

Many children connect to their school through digital classrooms, remote learning, or online service programs for specific subjects like math and language arts. Having an internet connection is key to a child completing classwork and you should take extra effort to ensure an internet connection is available in the new home.

Contact an internet company before the move and have internet service scheduled before you move in. With a new home, you never know how the Wi-Fi reception will be, so consider the purchase of a Wi-Fi extender in the home. You can also prepare extra supplies like routers or LAN cables for direct internet connections.

If you cannot set up internet service right away, then consider a mobile hot spot connection. A mobile hot spot uses a cell phone's data connection to allow other devices like a tablet to connect to the phone's data plan. The hot spot connection is ideal if you have an unlimited data plan.

3. Designated Homework Space

Moving days are hectic and can involve a lot of boxes, organizing, and busywork. All the chaos of a move can make it hard for a child to focus on schoolwork at home. When you move into a new house, you can have a designated space away from all the unpacking.

You can direct a moving company to set up tables, desks, and chairs in a room of your choice. If you have a desktop computer, you can hire a moving company to set up a computer desk and connect the computer. When your child needs to use a computer, everything will be ready to go.

With a moving schedule, you can ensure the homework area is set up first so the child has a place to go without any major delays or hassles.

4. School Day Moving

When you arrange moving services, you can choose specific times for the move. When kids are at school, you can use the school day time to complete a majority of the move. Drop off boxes, unpack boxes, and set up items all throughout the school day.

By the time the child arrives back home, they can unwind and focus on any homework without the need to unpack items. You can take the school day to unpack their rooms and give them a quiet place to read and write. Scheduling the exact times will make a big difference in the way you plan.

In the end, you can reduce the impact on your child's schooling and help prevent them from falling behind.
